Modern Eden Gallery recently asked me to participate in a Mona Lisa tribute show. I created this piece called the Isleworth Mona Lisa.

As of this year, “The Isleworth Mona Lisa is a painting of the same subject as Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Though insufficiently examined, the painting is claimed by some to be partly an original work of Leonardo dating from the early 16th century.” -Wikipedia

Recently the Islewoth Mona Lisa was in fact verified to be painted by da Vinci himself. I was drawn to the bright colors- this women has a vivd personality.

Below is the press release for, Mona, a group exhibition at Modern Eden Gallery.

Modern Eden Gallery is pleased to present ‘Mona’, an international group exhibition featuring contemporary adaptations of Da Vinci’s masterpiece, “Mona Lisa”. The Mona Lisa has been acclaimed as “the best known, the most visited, the most written about, the most sung about, the most parodied work of art in the world.” In this exhibition, a selection of international contemporary artists are taking on that tradition and re-creating the well-known masterpiece with their own artistic variations.

The Mona Lisa (La Gioconda or La Joconde) is a half-length portrait of a woman by the Italian artist Leonardo Da Vinci. The ambiguity of the subject’s expression, which is frequently described as enigmatic, the monumentality of the composition, the subtle modeling of forms and the atmospheric illusionism were novel qualities that have contributed to the continuing fascination and study of the work.
