Sundoor at World’s End- Venice, Italy

Within the very heart of Venice, Italy sits La Maddalena. A Freemasons church devoted to Jesus Christ’s companion, the mysterious Mary of Magdalene.

On view until November 26, 2017, artist Slater B. Bradley has created an art exhibition called, “Sundoor at Worlds End.”

In a city full of special experiences, Bradley has created something truly exceptional and memorable within the sanctuary of La Maddalena.

“For this project, the artist focuses his attention on spiritual icons and the figure of Mary Magdalene, “the Apostle to the Apostles,” as he embeds the iconography of the Saint and symbolism related to women, divine feminine energy, and the Gateway to the Galactic Center, an ancient and modern esoteric concept.

The main installation is a Crystal Labyrinth, which is comprised of 888 rose quartz crystals. These 888 stones form a walkable 7-meter (21 feet) in diameter labyrinth whose center aligns directly beneath the oculus, of this perfectly round building.

Walking the labyrinth, is a spiritual journey inward- circling, thus illuminating the inner path to heart-based consciousness. The rose is a symbol of a new dawn and the resurrection of light and renewal of life based in divine love.

According to Encylopedia.com “The actual procedure of labyrinth walking is divided into three phases or stages: the journey inward, a pause for prayer or meditation at the center, and the return journey. There are no rules or guidelines for the pace or speed of labyrinth walking… Some people choose to dance, run, crawl on their hands and knees, or walk backwards in the labyrinth. With regard to pausing in the center of the labyrinth, people’s behavior varies… Labyrinths based on the Chartres model have six “petals” or semicircular spaces surrounding the center, which allow people to remain to pray, contemplate, or meditate.”

In addition to the rose quartz crystal labyrinth, the artist has created an installation of seven shields. Six gold “Solar Shields” and a black “Magnetic Shield” at the south altar.

“The ‘Shields’ are sized in the Golden Ratio and playing with numerological codes and patterns. The installation at La Maddalena specifically relates to planetary movements and alignments within the Zodiac. The shields are in harmony with the frequency of Natural Law and Source, and they become a conduit for dimensional energy exchange.”

“The paint of the marker forges with the photographic image that forms the ground of each work. The root images function as visual recordings sourced from journeys focusing on the metaphysics of spiritual ascension undertaken by the artist. Hidden completely by the artist’s hand or left partially uncovered revealing location fragments and compositional details, the Shields transmute into an etheric gold energy field, evoking electromagnetic waves, spiritual waters and inner auric light.”

The defining detail of this profound exhibit is a music collaboration with Academy Award-nominated composer Dustin O’Halloran. Throughout the chambers a beautiful, ethereal soundscape elevates this already sacred space creating a meditative and harmonic moment.

This exhibit left me with a very profound experience. One that I will always remember.
